It is with much excitement that we announce a name change for our organization.
Dairy Farmers, Inc., has officially transitioned to Florida Dairy Farmers, a shift that will better identify the geography we represent.
Florida is home to a thriving dairy industry that includes farms all across our state. Every morning, these farmers begin the process of providing fresh milk for consumers. Just who are these farmers? Get to know them and their stories.
People sometimes ask if they can meet their nutritional needs with non-dairy options.
The answer is that it’s possible; it’s just not very easily done and you better have a big appetite.
For example, you would need to eat eight cups of spinach or a little more than two cups of broccoli to get the same amount of calcium absorbed from one cup of milk.
As much as I love my veggies, I’ll choose the glass of milk for my calcium.
Other foods such as salmon, beans (pinto and red especially) and corn tortillas naturally provide calcium. However, these foods also have lower “calcium bioavailability” so you would need to eat large quantities to get the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk. It’s not realistic for most children – or adults!
Florida’s dairy farmers are proud sponsors of the most unique high school sports awards program in the country. Since 1992, the program has honored the top student-athletes and coaches across the state. With past winners like Tim Tebow, Alex Rodriguez, Amare Stoudamire and more, the list of winners reads like a “who’s who” of our state’s athletes. Check out our most recent winners as well as those from years past, including many others who went on to leave their mark in the collegiate, professional and Olympic ranks.
Chocolate milk is an ideal post-workout beverage because every serving contains the nutrition needed to promote effective recovery after exercise. These nutrients include carbohydrates to refuel muscles; protein to reduce muscle breakdown and stimulate growth; and fluid and electrolytes to replenish what is lost in sweat and to rehydrate the body.
Ever wonder where your milk comes from? Many times, people are quick to respond that it “comes from the grocery store.” And while this answer is not incorrect, the milk that Floridians enjoy has a story behind it that starts before it reaches the store. Florida has a thriving dairy industry that makes it possible for people to enjoy a fresh supply of milk. Yet, these farmers often produce milk in agricultural parts of the state that many consumers never see. But our Florida dairy farms are far from faceless corporations. Our farms are family owned and operated and it’s not uncommon to see different generations working alongside each other every day to keep the milk flowing. Dairy Farmers, Inc., is proud to present the journey of Florida milk – and the people working behind the scenes who make it all possible – through our “From The Farm To The Fridge” video. This educational video was filmed on a Florida dairy farm and it allows you to see what it takes to produce milk as you follow its path from the farm to your refrigerator.
