Hometown Huddle
NFL teams annually participate in a variety of hands-on community service projects, known collectively as Hometown Huddle. The Hometown Huddle events take place in the NFL markets on the same day in October and represent a snapshot of some of the volunteer activities in which NFL teams participate year-round with local United Ways and their agencies.
This year, the Dairy Council of Florida used these Hometown Huddle events as a springboard to bring awareness to the FUTP60 program in Tampa and Jacksonville.
In Jacksonville, the United Way of Northeast Florida joined with the Jacksonville Jaguars for an event at Matthew Gilbert Middle School on Oct. 6. The Dairy Council of Florida had an opportunity to work with 200 students from the after-school program. These students were educated about the importance of a healthy diet and at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. In addition to physical activities, the students met about 20 members of the Jaguars and were treated to plenty of Gustafsonās milk.
In Tampa, DFI joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their event at the Boys and Girls Club. Buc players were on hand with cheerleaders and a mascot to promote FUTP60 with exercises and healthy nutrition messages. DFI provided chocolate milk, string cheese and yogurt to the kids as they arrived after school.
