2009 Florida School Breakfast Week September 14-18
The third year of the “Excellence Begins With School Breakfast” fall campaign sponsored by the Department of Education, Offices of Food and Nutrition Management and the Dairy Council of Florida will once again promote awareness and participation in the school breakfast program. Currently, less than 30 percent of Florida students eat breakfast at school. “Eating breakfast at school provides children an opportunity to socialize with their friends while enjoying a healthy meal that is economically priced. “Parents can feel good knowing that their children are getting what they need to give them the best possible start to their school day.” Eating breakfast has been associated with higher standardized test scores, better student behavior, greater school attendance, better health and improved weight control.
