Pasco County Public Schools Gets 30 Dairy Vending Machines
The Dairy Council of Florida and Pasco County Public Schools are partnering to place 30 dairy vending machines in middle and high schools around the district. The new cow-spotted vending machines will spark renewed interest in Pasco’s healthy vending program while helping remind students about the importance of dairy in a healthy diet.
In addition to increasing access and consumption of dairy to Pasco County’s population of over 70,000 students, these 30 dairy-focused vending machines have the potential to generate additional revenue for the district as each school retains the proceeds of all sales from the machines. Milk, cheese and yogurt will be positioned with complimenting foods that meet the recommendations for a healthy diet set forth by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, ensuring students have access to a variety of food groups to encourage (low fat and fat free dairy, fruits and vegetables and whole grains).
