Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. (FAITC) is a non-profit organization that develops and trains teachers and agriculture industry volunteers in its agricultural curricula and materials, which they in turn use to educate students about the importance of agriculture. It also provides grant money to teachers and volunteers for projects that teach students where their food comes from, and the important contributions Florida farmers make to their communities and their state.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s National Healthy Schools Award is an honor given to showcase and acknowledge schools that have implemented changes to create healthier school environments. To earn an award, schools must meet best practice criteria established by the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program Expert Panel and outlined in the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Best Practices. Awards are granted at the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
The Smarter Lunchrooms Movement is dedicated to providing schools with the knowledge, motivation, and resources needed to build a lunchroom environment that makes healthy food choices the easy choice. The Movement brings evidence from the fields of economics, marketing, and psychology into the school cafeteria. Smarter Lunchrooms strategies are free or low-cost solutions that nudge students to voluntarily select the healthiest food in the lunchroom. Smarter Lunchrooms can see less waste, higher participation, more satisfied students, and increased consumption of important nutrient-rich foods.
Action for Healthy Kids provides a variety of tools and resources to help schools implement health and wellness programs that can help your school become a place where kids learn to lead healthier lives, eat nutritious foods, are physically active and better prepared to learn each day
The School Health Index (SHI) is an online self-assessment and planning tool that schools can use to improve their health and safety policies and programs. It’s easy to use and completely confidential. The SHI is based on CDC’s research-based guidelines for school health programs, which identify the policies and practices most likely to be effective in reducing youth health risk behaviors
