Being Lactose Intolerant Doesn't Mean No Dairy

Milk and dairy foods have long been staples in the American diet. Yet many people who may be – or believe they are – lactose intolerant might forgo dairy and miss out on the key nutrients found in dairy foods.

February is Lactose Intolerance Awareness Month and Florida Dairy Farmers took to the airwaves on WJXT in Jacksonville to talk about lactose intolerance and help those who are sensitive to lactose discover ways to confidently and comfortably consume dairy. In a live segment on the station's morning show, FDF registered dietitian Alyssa Greenstein provided useful tips and recipes for those who are lactose intolerant. 

Lactose intolerance is often mischaracterized as an allergy that generally requires completely avoiding dairy. However, lactose intolerance is actually the body’s inability to digest lactose (a natural sugar mainly found in dairy products), and it’s not an all-or-nothing condition.
