Ingredients
Donut
- Zest of 1 orange (set aside)
- 1 C all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ C low fat sour cream
- ½ C granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ C orange juice
- ¼ tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp orange extract
- Butter (use for non-stick)
Sugar Coating
- 2 T salted butter, melted
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ½ C granulated sugar
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350o F.
- Use butter to grease and flour a mini donut pan (2” mini donuts).
- Combine the following DONUT ingredients into a large bowl: flour, baking powder, salt and ground cloves. Whisk together.
- In a different bowl, cream together sugar and sour cream. Once the mixture is well blended (it will look like frosting), add the eggs, orange juice, zest, almond extract and orange extract. Mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients from step 1 into the bowl of wet ingredients from step 2. Mix until combined.
- Fill each cavity of the donut pan halfway.
- Bake for 14 minutes. Remove from oven & allow to cool before removing from pan.
- While donuts are baking, combine the following SUGAR COATING ingredients into a container with a lid: cinnamon, cloves & granulated sugar.
- Brush each donut with melted butter. Add each donut individually to the lidded container, close the top, and shake to coat the donut in the sugar. Repeat with each donut.
