Ingredients

  • 1/2 (14-ounce) package frozen lime purée, or 1/3–1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • Zest of 1–2 limes
  • 4 cups whole milk, chilled
  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups ice, plus more for serving
  • 1–2 limes, cut into wedges, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Add frozen lime purée, lime zest, milk, sweetened condensed milk and ice to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, creamy and frothy.
  3. Taste and adjust the sweetness with additional sweetened condensed milk, if desired.
  4. Fill glasses with pebble or crushed ice and pour the limeade over the ice.
  5. Garnish with fresh lime wedges and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Traditional Brazilian limeade is often made by blending whole limes. This version uses lime purée and fresh zest for bright lime flavor while reducing the bitterness that can come from the peel and white pith.
  • If using fresh lime juice instead of frozen lime purée, start with 1/3 cup and add more to taste, up to 1/2 cup.
  • Keep the fresh lime zest in the recipe for additional citrus flavor and aroma. Limes vary in acidity, so adjust the sweetened condensed milk depending on how tart or sweet you like your limeade.
  • Serve cold. Pebble or crushed ice works especially well and gives the limeade a frosty, refreshing texture.
