Ingredients
Cake
- 1 box (13.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix baked according to package directions
Chocolate Mouse
- 2 boxes of 1.4 oz instant sugar-free chocolate pudding mix
- 8 oz container of whipped topping
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
Cherries
- 3 tbsp Grand Marnier - you can also use Cointreau, Kirsch, or Chambord (substitute with 3 tbsp unsweetened orange juice concentrate for non-alcoholic version)
- 2 1/2 cups pitted fresh cherries, halved
Homemade Whipped Cream
- 1 pint heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
For garnish if desired:
- Fresh mint leaves
- Chocolate shavings
- Fresh cherries
Preparation
- Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box, cool and cut it into 1-inch squares.
- Pit cherries, place in a bowl, add Grand Marnier, cover, and refrigerate.
- Prepare the chocolate mousse by mixing the pudding mix and milk, add in the whipped topping, mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Prepare whipped cream using a stand mixer. Add the heavy whipping cream to a bowl, mix on medium speed, and add sugar and vanilla. Once peaks start to form, stop.
- Now it's time to layer your trifle bowls.
- Place a layer of chocolate cake into serving bowls.
- Top with chocolate mousse.
- Scoop on cherries.
- Top with a heaping scoop of whipped cream.
- Sprinkle with chocolate shavings, fresh mint and a cherry if desired.
- Serve with a cold glass of Florida milk.
