Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 box (13.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix baked according to package directions

Chocolate Mouse

  • 2 boxes of 1.4 oz instant sugar-free chocolate pudding mix
  • 8 oz container of whipped topping
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

Cherries

  • 3 tbsp Grand Marnier - you can also use Cointreau, Kirsch, or Chambord (substitute with 3 tbsp unsweetened orange juice concentrate for non-alcoholic version)
  • 2 1/2 cups pitted fresh cherries, halved

Homemade Whipped Cream

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For garnish if desired:

  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Fresh cherries

Preparation

  1. Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box, cool and cut it into 1-inch squares.
  2. Pit cherries, place in a bowl, add Grand Marnier, cover, and refrigerate.
  3. Prepare the chocolate mousse by mixing the pudding mix and milk, add in the whipped topping, mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
  4. Prepare whipped cream using a stand mixer. Add the heavy whipping cream to a bowl, mix on medium speed, and add sugar and vanilla. Once peaks start to form, stop.
  5. Now it's time to layer your trifle bowls.
  6. Place a layer of chocolate cake into serving bowls.
  7. Top with chocolate mousse.
  8. Scoop on cherries.
  9. Top with a heaping scoop of whipped cream.
  10. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings, fresh mint and a cherry if desired.
  11. Serve with a cold glass of Florida milk.
